The summer exhibition of Hayward gallery is comprised of The New Décor and The Edges of the World. The New Décor presents artworks from 25 different countries 36 artists and Ernesto neto accomplished The Edges of the World. Each of artworks shows us fresh new conception about decorations and use different ways that keep me thinking longer than I might want to.
As an art learning beginner, I heard the exhibition is about arts and design so I thought the artworks should present aesthetic in visual, show high technology or use special new material. In fact it’s really shock me when two huge green and pink sculptures rush into my eyes. However I want to understand art world so I try to use the gallery’s booklet and notes even ask gallery staffs to help me. All over the whole gallery the most impress me work is Mona Hatoum’s Interior Landscape. Mona hatoum use a scattering of hairs to decorate a pillow, use grease to decorate a paper plate, let me imagine that a patient use trashy thing to create a world full of interesting, fancy and creative. Another work I do like it is Untitled bench by Nicole Wermers who put 4 large stones in Perspex bench. The bench looks very modern and useful I even want put it to my dining room if I could. But mostly artworks I feel depress such as Crazy-nomad by Pascale Marthine Tayou, Dustbin by Gelitin, Rosemarie Trochel’s Landscapian Shroud of my mother which bring the feeling about poor, fear and death. This feeling full of the gallery’s downstairs and difficult to move out of my mind to let me understand the others artworks.
Move to upstairs I could take a break, in the edges of the world Ernesto Neto bring a children’s playground, in here you can touch you can sit you can be a child do anything what you want but I think if Neto add some light and music to make mysterious atmosphere that would be perfect.
In the end I found I spend more than 4 hours in Hayward gallery, I feel sorry for curator to design this space and combine totally different conception decorations to one gallery, and obviously hard to understand each artwork. and maybe they should change the topic to the different décor.
